Nice for heavier work, but not so nice for fine electronic work.I would recomend this. Wish the case had a bit more storage for a real reel of solder, etc. Really like the soldering Gun. I bought this to replace an older lower wattage (standard one) weller that no longer works.
The only way I could open the case was to pry the latch open with a screwdriver. It is a good gun, but did not do as I hoped it would with the cutting tip. Updated to add information about the case. I bought this to supplement the smaller 100/140 watt unit to speed up heating with the cutting tip. It took a little carving and shaping the latch with heat to make it work as it should. The larger unit did not heat the cutting tip any hotter. Near as I can tell, the output voltage is the same for both guns. The large solder tip definitely has more heat, but the smaller tips showed no difference.
It has plenty of power, heats quickly (not as quickly as the old Wen guns, but still quickly) and is not too heavy. I use this gun for soldering large electrical connectors, sometimes outdoors in the cold. Weller has been making guns like this for decades and they know how. It was received with one of the element nuts a bit loose, which resulted in poor heating, but after that was tightened it works great.
It heats up very quickly and that's what you want when soldering something, it has a good heavy feel to it and seems like a quality item, I would recomend this tool to anyone that is serious about tools. Not too much to say, it's a great tool and does the job like it should.
I love it. If you have to do some soldering this is the tool for the job.
